Slimline/Compact Range Update

As you are very likely aware, we have had an issue with a shortage of a component that was contained within our Slimline/Compact range of panels.  This is just post to let you know we now have stock of these components and our normal lead times have now resumed.

For outstanding orders, we have been contacting customers to let them know a delivery date.  If you have not received an email or would like to know if any alternate date is possible, please contact me to get that arranged.

We have put measures in place for the future so this will not happen again.  At all times, we are keeping a 6-12 month supply of this component in our warehouse as the lead time for these can be very unpredictable.

This has been an extremely embarrassing and stressful time for us all at RB1 LTD and we would like to thank each and every one of you for your patience and understanding.

Many thanks.

Dan Ward.

Component Shortage

Unfortunately, we are also experiencing a shortage of a component that is used in our RB1-C-EMBS and RB1-S-EMBS panels.  We have a large quantity of stock due to arrive at the end of January 2023.  To avoid this issue happening again, we are keeping a 6 month supply of these with us at all times.

If possible, we are advising any customers that require an RB1-C-EMBS and RB1-S-EMBS before January 2023 to order from our RB1-EMBS range.  These are slightly larger in size (100mm wider).

If space is an issue, we have also designed a temporary panel which we are able to offer.  This measures the same as our compact range at 500x400x200mm (HxWxD). It is rated for 32A to 125A and features everything you would expect from an RB1 Panel, including our mechanical interlock.

Please get in touch if you would like any more information.

Last 2022 Delivery Date

Thank you for your continued support throughout 2022.

This is just a quick post to inform you that our last delivery date for this year is the 22nd of December 2022.  We advise any customers with any orders required by the end of the year to get these to us ASAP to avoid any delays.

Further Improved ATS Panel

After asking for feedback regarding our updated Automatic Transfer Switch panel (ATS), we have further improved the design of this panel with engineers in mind.

We have now added terminal connections on the back plate for connecting the load and also a 16A generator charger supply. This also includes a generator start signal for when the ATS is being used with mains and generator.

Our ATS Panels are suitable for Mains to Mains or Mains to Generator Transfer and are user configurable through the display. They can also be fitted (Bayed) on top of RB1 EMBS panels if the width is the same. We can cater for single/three phase up to 250A.

These are available in either cream or black measuring 600x600x300mm (HxWxD).

Why should you install an External Bypass Switch for your UPS System?

UPS System Bypass Switch

Whether you already have a UPS system or are planning to install one, you should consider your bypassing arrangements. Maintenance of a UPS system is unavoidable. No matter how efficient the system or well-designed it is in terms of maintenance access and a modular UPS design, there will come a time when the system has to be powered down and removed from the circuit. Without a UPS maintenance bypass switch, this also means that the load also has to be powered down, which can be very disruptive to your business.

Your UPS system may have an internal maintenance bypass switch. This will be sufficient for your maintenance purposes and should prevent the UPS system from exposing the UPS maintenance engineer to live voltages. The system is still live and only partially isolated as an internal bypass doesn’t allow the UPS system to be turned off and removed from the circuit.

An external UPS maintenance bypass switch sits in line with the electrical cable installation between the distribution board from which the UPS system draws its mains (or generator) power and the output distribution arrangements. Above 3kVA all connections are hardwired for electrical safety reasons and to meet the electrical regulations. Below 3kVA they may be hardwired or plug-and-play using IEC-type cable connectors with or without locking clamps such a mechanism.

Ups system maintenance bypass switch

On the output of the UPS, your installation may run from a further distribution board to which are connected your critical loads either directly or via a power distribution unit (PDU) arrangement. In the electrical installation, the UPS bypass switch is often installed ahead of the uninterruptible power supply delivery. The bypass switch is a part of the electrical switchgear arrangements and installation. UPS bypass switches have two further connections, for the UPS input and output cables.

UPS bypass switches may use a manually turned rotary switch or circuit breakers for the switching arrangement. It is important to check that the switching mechanism is a make-before-break type as opposed to the break-before-make type. The latter would expose the critical load to short breaks in supply as the switching between UPS output and mains power (and the return) occurs.

It is also important to ensure that the UPS maintenance bypass switch is manufacturer certified as the switching arrangements can affect UPS operation by placing a short on the UPS output and/or activating an alarm code. Some UPS manufacturers require the fitting of a communications cable between their uninterruptible power supplies and the external maintenance bypass switch to avoid alarm activation and ensure the UPS can report on the correct state of its bypass arrangement. Such signalling arrangements are often overlooked and yet the provision for signal contacts (normally volt-free) should be built-into your UPS maintenance bypass for remote monitoring via a Building Management System (BMS). You may even consider adding a local GSM modem for external maintenance bypass status reporting.

In a parallel uninterruptible power supply configuration, each UPS system can be installed with its own external UPS maintenance bypass or a single wrap-around one for the entire system. The latter will have to be sized for the whole of the parallel UPS system output and will therefore be most costly to purchase and install (due to the more significant Amperage and cabling requirements).

RB1 – ISO14001 Certification

We are now proud to announce we have been awarded certification for UKAS accredited ISO 14001:2015.
ISO 14001:2015 specifies the requirements for an environmental management system that an organization can use to enhance its environmental performance. The certification is intended for use by an organization seeking to manage its environmental responsibilities in a systematic manner that contributes to the environmental pillar of sustainability.

The ISO 14001:2015 announcement is in addition to our existing UKAS accredited ISO certification – ISO 9001:2015 which has now been renewed. Our certificates are available to download below.
